Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed Clamshell Decoration, Stamped "CORLEARS HOOK", Thomas Commeraw, Manhattan, NY, circa 1810, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout and footed base, decorated with Commeraws' classic "clamshell" motif composed of opposing impressed drapes and tassels. Stamped below with "CORLEARS HOOK" maker's mark. Heavy cobalt brushwork highlights the impressed decoration. Additional cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Very nice condition with two base chips, the larger measuring 1", and a tight horizontal hairline through handle.
