Rare Rockingham Bust of Admiral Dewey, American, late 19th century, large-sized bust with pedestal base, molded in the form of Admiral George Dewey (1837-1917). Surface covered in an amber-colored Rockingham glaze with cobalt highlights to chest. Hand-incised details to epaulettes, face, and hair. Dewey is most well-known for his victory at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War. He also bears the distinction of being the only person to achieve the rank of Admiral of the Navy. Restored chip to pedestal base on reverse. Two restored chips to right shoulder. Minor restored chip to left side of bust. H 9 3/4".
