Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar, Stamped "ORCUTT AND WAIT / WHATELY", Massachusetts origin, circa 1815-1817, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, featuring the large, cobalt-highlighted maker's mark of Stephen Orcutt and brothers, Luke and Obediah Wait. Additional cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent condition with some minor chipping to base, a typical in-the-firing contact mark to front, a small stone ping to reverse, and three small rim chips, one of which is glazed over.
