Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Ochre Floral Decoration, Stamped "T. CRAFTS & CO. / WHATELY", MA origin, circa 1835, ovoid jug with tooled spout, decorated with a large brushed tulip in reddish-brown ochre slip. Brushed ochre highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Drips of ochre to shoulder. A particularly well-decorated example of an unusual Whately maker's mark. As-made condition with a 3 1/2" in-the-firing contact mark to reverse, a 1 1/2" in-the-firing contact mark with two associate chips on front, and other small in-the-firing imperfections.
