Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Bird Decoration, Stamped "I. SEYMOUR / TROY", New York State origin, circa 1830, finely-potted jug of highly-ovoid form with tooled spout and heavily-ribbed handle, the front decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a bird perched on a stylized leaf. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Very nice condition. A shallow flake to top of spout. Some additional chipping to edge of spout, most or all of which occurred in the firing. A small, shallow chip to underside of jug at edge, which appears to be in-the-making. Some small, old green paint drips to surface.
