One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Swag Decoration, Stamped "S. BELL & SON / STRASBURG", Virginia origin, circa 1890, cylindrical form with tooled shoulder and squared rim, decorated with a series of brushed swags over a slip-coated ground. Impressed with S. Bell & Son maker's mark at shoulder. A 2 1/2" hairline at base, continuing across underside. One small rim chip.
