Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with two drooping tulips between wavy stripes of cobalt. Areas under each handle decorated with a scalloped line design. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed "6" under one handle. Unusual size with strong color. Long, sealed J-shaped crack from rim. A 5" in-the-firing surface line from rim on interior, only 3/4" of which is visible on the exterior. H 17".
