Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Stamped "LEWIS & GARDINER / HUNTINGTON, L.I.", circa 1827-1892, ovoid jug with tooled spout and applied handle, decorated with abstract freehand brushwork to front and maker's mark. A difficult-to-find maker's mark and desirable one-gallon size. Lewis & Gardiner pieces with decoration other than highlights to the maker's mark, capacity mark, or handle terminals, are considered even more unusual. A 2 7/8" heavily-chipped section to base, which occurred in the firing and is partially glazed over. Other minor base wear. A 6 1/2" cross shaped hairline from spout to side of jug.
