Extremely Rare Miniature Stoneware Bowl with Cobalt Floral and Foliate Motifs, attributed to the Thompson Pottery, Morgantown, WV, circa 1875, tapered bowl with pronounced rim and recessed underside, the circumference decorated with two distinctive leaves and a flower blossom in the Morgantown style. Albany-slip-glazed interior. Stoneware objects of this size from the Thompson Pottery, West Virginia's most revered stoneware operation, are considered highly unusual. In addition to the rarity of the size, few bowl forms produced in Morgantown are known. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A thin crack and faint hairline. A minor stone ping to rim. H 2" ; Diameter 3 5/8".
