Fine Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Rose Decoration, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO. / PA", circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with four large stenciled rose motifs surrounding James Hamilton maker's stenciling. Brushed stripe at rim and base. Bold-faced stenciled "6" at base with freehand dashes to the left. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent condition with two chips to one handle.
