Ten-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Eagle Decoration, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON & Co. / GREENSBORO. PA.", circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large stenciled Federal eagle holding a banner, inscribed "JAS. HAMILTON & Co.". Front additionally well-decorated with brushed swags, stripes, and vining. Bold-faced stenciled number 10 at base, flanked by stenciled flourishes. A sealed and partially-colored top-to-bottom crack on front, extending 1" onto underside. A filled and colored surface chip to shoulder area on front, measuring 1 1/8", and a tiny touched-up spot of fry near base on front. A thin horizontal crack at base on reverse, which extends onto underside. A few hairlines to underside. An 8" vertical hairline on reverse of jar. H 20 1/4".
