Scarce Two-Gallon Ovoid Stoneware Jug, Stamped "J. MILLER / WHEELING. Va", circa 1825-1835, finely-potted, ovoid jug with ribbed strap handle and heavy tooling to shoulder and spout, impressed with the maker's mark, "J. MILLER / WHEELING. Va", above a distinctive two-gallon capacity mark. Pieces bearing this maker's mark are considered difficult-to-find, and were made well before West Virginia's secession from the state of Virginia. Chipping to base, including a 1 1/2" flake to underside at edge of jug. Otherwise, excellent, essentially as-made condition.
