Rare Creamware Teapot, Stamped "AMERICAN POTTERY CO. / JERSEY CITY, N.J.", circa 1838-1850, diminutive, octagonal teapot with relief flower motifs throughout, twisted branch-form handle, and original floral-decorated with berry-form finial. Underside impressed with American Pottery Co. maker's mark. The mold for this elegant, finely-executed piece was designed by noted modeler, Daniel Greatbach, who trained in Staffordshire, England and was involved at several pottery establishments in America. An identical example resides in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, NY. Excellent condition. Two in-the-firing separations on interior, not visible on exterior. A 1 1/4" surface line on top of handle, which does not extend through handle and possibly occurred in the firing. H (to top of finial) 3 7/8" ; L 6 3/4".
