Rare Cold-Painted Redware Gettysburg Souvenir Monument of the 13th New Jersey Volunteers, Stamped "SPEESE & CO. / GETTYSBURG, PA," Henry and Charles Speese, Gettysburg, PA, circa 1885, molded souvenir in the form of the Gettysburg Civil War monument for the 13th New Jersey Volunteers, featuring a kneeling soldier with rifle, trees in the background, and impressed inscription "13 NEW JERSEY VOLS". Additionally impressed "GETTYSBURG" and "JULY 1,2,3 1863". Surface covered in dark-brown over silver cold paint. Such souvenirs were advertised on the pottery's business cards as "Gettysburg Battlefield Miniature Monument, / Fac-Similes of the Monuments, / Made from Material from the most Historical Portions of the Field. / THEY ARE IN THEMSELVES RELICS" (Lasansky, Central Pennsylvania Redware 1780-1904, pp. 18-19).
