Rare Miniature Glazed Redware Pitcher and Bowl Set, Stamped "JOHN BELL", Waynesboro, PA origin, circa 1850-1880, finely-potted pitcher with footed base, ovoid body, and narrow spout with flared opening, the surface decorated with sponged manganese over a light orange ground and covered in a clear lead glaze. Includes original bowl with footed base, rounded sides, and tooled rim, the surface decorated with sponged manganese and covered in a clear lead glaze. Pitcher impressed "JOHN BELL" on underside. Bowl unmarked. An outstanding set, likely made as a child's toy. The first example of this rare and appealing form by John Bell we have ever offered. Pitcher in very nice condition with light wear to rim and minuscule wear to handle. Bowl in excellent condition with a minor rim nick. H (of pitcher) 4 3/4". ; H (of bowl) 2 3/8" ; Diameter (of bowl) 5 3/8".
