Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Cobalt Heart Decoration, Stamped "J.B. PFALTZGRAFF & CO. / YORK, PA", circa 1855-1880, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, ribbed lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a heart with three stylized daisy blossoms on interior, flanked by two tulip plants. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Impressed with a cobalt-highlighted "2" on reverse. Professional restoration to rim and reverse. Two small rim chips. Heavy chipping to edges of both handles. Jar is slightly out-of-round. Y-shaped crack across underside, continuing onto base area in two places. A few in-the-firing contact marks to jar.
