One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA", circa 1865, ovoid form with tubular spout and bail handle composed of wire and wood, decorated on the front with a brushed wreath surrounding the base of the spout and on the reverse with a large spitting tulip. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Chipping to handle at base on reverse. Two large, adjacent reglued pieces at rim on front with two sliver-shaped chips missing. A 1" hairline on side of batter pail. A large base chip. Some fry to cobalt.
