Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "S. HART / FULTON", New York State origin, circa 1860, squat-shaped jar with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with solid wing and spotted body, perched on a looping flourish, beside a cobalt script "2" with flourish below. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Very nice condition with two minor base chips, a minor nick to one handle, and some in-the-firing residue to shoulder. Jar slumped during the firing.
