Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER, JR. / ROCHESTER. N.Y.", circa 1885, large-sized, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flowering plant bearing three shaded blossoms. Slip-trailed number 6 above. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. A shallow 2" chip on interior of rim. A second small chip to interior of rim. A 4 3/4" stained surface line to front, not visible on interior. Faint 5" inverted Y-shaped surface line to reverse, not visible on interior. Staining to surface. A few minor in-the-firing iron pings. Staining to surface.
