Unusual Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Figural Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder, applied lug handles, and flared rim, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of man flanked by grass. This highly-stylized design includes spots to the body and long outstretched arm. Restored crack extending from shoulder to base on front, with no touch-up to cobalt. This crack extends across underside, and is sealed but not restored. An additional top-to-bottom crack from rim on reverse, most of which is restored.
