Four-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Cobalt Bird-on-Vine Decoration, Stamped "W ROBERTS BINGHAMTON. N.Y", circa 1870, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a bird with fan-shaped tail, crest, and well-detailed body, perched on a flowering vine. Two brown iron spots and some light-brown in-the-firing drips to left side of jar. Two chips and a 1 1/4" in-the-firing line to interior of rim. A series of very large in-the-firing chips to bottom edge on left side of jar, partially visible when jar is seated. Some light exfoliation to left side of jar. H 18 1/4".
