Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Paddletailed Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON, / UTICA, N.Y.", circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a crested bird with paddle-shaped tail, perched on a flowering vine. A 5" Y-shaped line near base on reverse. Two glazed-over surface lines, measuring 3 1/2" and 1 3/4". A base chip on reverse and a few minor base nicks. Chipping throughout base and wall of crock on interior.
