Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Leaf Decoration, Stamped "S.T. BREWER / NEW LONDON," CT origin, circa 1828-1830, ovoid jug with footed base, rounded spout, and heavily-tooled shoulder, the front decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted leaf with veined interior. Additional cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. A scarce, short-lived Connecticut maker's mark, featuring a nicely-executed design. Sealed and partially-colored horizontal spider crack at base, with a 6" T-shaped line extending upward from it on right side of jug. In-the-firing contact marks to shoulder of jug. Spout slumped during firing. A short in-the-firing separation at upper handle terminal.
