Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "I.V. MACHETT", Cornwall, NY origin, circa 1850, squat-shaped, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder, rounded spout, and heavily-ribbed handle, the front decorated with a stylized drooping flower. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. In-the-firing flaws, including a shallow chip to top of spout a separation on interior of spout, and a 1 3/4" contact mark to right side. A 2 3/4" spider line at base, which continues onto underside, where it forms a 1 1/2" T-shaped line. Some faint lines to left side and reverse of jug, which appear to be in the surface only, as well as probably in-the-firing.
