Finely-Glazed Redware Pitcher, American, possibly Maine, second or third quarter 19th century, squat-shaped, ovoid pitcher with footed base, applied strap handle, and wide collar with tooled rim, the surface dipped in a cream-colored slip, decorated with heavy splashes of manganese, and covered in a clear lead glaze. Excellent color and form. Wear and shallow chips to rim. A 3/4" in-the-firing flake / contact mark to surface near base. A tight 2 1/4" line to base. A few short and very minor vertical lines to base, possibly in-the-firing. A 3" crack from rim. Light wear to surface. Three shallow base chips. A 5/8" in-the-firing contact mark / shallow chip to handle. H 6 1/2".
