Fine and Rare Glazed Redware Shaving Mug, Maine origin, second quarter 19th century, large-sized, tapered mug with applied, ovoid receptacle on interior, the reverse with applied strap handle. Surface decorated with spattered manganese over a colorful salmon-colored ground with cream accents. Surface covered in a clear lead glaze. Excellent form and color. Provenance: Recently found in Maine. Very minor wear to exterior of rim. Moderate wear to rim of receptacle on interior of mug. H 4 ; Diameter (across top) 5 1/8".
