Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug with Boston Advertising, Stamped "OTTMAN BRO'S / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.", circa 1875, cylindrical jug with tall spout and applied handle, featuring the slip-trailed advertising "John H. Walsh / 265 Federal St. / Boston". Walsh was born in Ireland in 1842 and died in Brighton, MA in 1888. He traveled to American in 1865, establishing a liquor business in Boston. Around 1876, Walsh established the well-known Centennial House hotel in Allston, MA. He was heavily-involved in local politics, serving as a member of the Democrat City Committee and State Central Commitee, and also helped organize the Irish Athletic Club of Boston. A chip to side of spout. Horizontal crack through handle. A small base chip.
