Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration and Unusual Make-Do Repair, Strasburg, VA origin, circa 1880, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on both sides with a brushed design of opposing swags flanking a hanging flower. Shoulder surrounding by highly-unusual wooden make-do banding. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from a Southeastern Virginia collection amassed decades ago. Significant cracks, stabilized by wooden make-do.
