Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler, Stamped Twice "J.M. HICKERSON / STRASBURG, VA," circa 1880, cylindrical cooler with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and long tubular bunghole at base. Impressed on side and reverse of cooler with Hickerson maker's mark. A rare Shenandoah Valley form, particularly unusual from any region in this small size. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a Southeastern VA collection amassed decades ago. Cracks emanating from bunghole, including a reglued section to top of bunhole. Restored rim chips. Two chips to shoulder molding.
