Rockingham-Glazed Teapot with Pewter Fittings, Stamped "T. SMITH Jr. / Ptd. Oct. 4. 1870.," Frederick H. Mear, Boston Earthenware Manufacturing Company, circa 1870-1875, ribbed Rockinghamware teapot with original molded pewter spout, handle, and lid with acorn finial. The impressed maker's mark, "T SMITH Jr.", and patent date on the underside refer to the maker of the pewter fittings. The teapot itself was produced by Frederick H. Mear of the Boston Earthenware Manufacturing Company. Literature: See Watkins, p. 219 and Ketchum, American Pottery and Porcelain (1st Edition), p. 217 for additional information. Chips to foot. Surface lines to base, not visible on interior. Spout possibly reglued to opening in teapot. Some wear to rim of teapot itself. H (to top of lid) 6 1/2".
