Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1860, ovoid pitcher with footed base and narrow collar with semi-squared rim, the front decorated with a two-stemmed flowering plant design. Base of collar decorated with cobalt swags. Additional cobalt swags flanking the spout. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a Southeastern VA collection amassed decades ago. Handle broken into three pieces and reglued, with an additional chip to middle of handle. Hairlines on underside, with one hairline extending approximately 4 1/4" up side of pitcher. Spout with a small chip and minor horizontal line. A 1 1/2" line to shoulder. A contact mark at base.
