Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Thompson Pottery, Morgantown, WV, circa 1870, cylindrical jar with semi-rounded rim, distinctive ribbed handles, and incised circumferential banding, decorated across the shoulder with a sweeping vine bearing flowers, across the midsection with a leaf and flower, and at the base with two flowers flanking a freehand "4". Freehand stripes throughout front. Wear to surface and rim. Minor chips to bottom edge of rim. Losses to one handle. Chipping to opposite handle. Large Y-shaped hairline on underside, which continues 1" onto base.
