Rare One-Quart Stoneware Canning Jar with Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "From / Samuel Cooper / No. 7 / Diamond / Pittsburgh," attributed to James Hamilton, & Co., Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid canning jar with tooled shoulder and wax sealer rim, the front decorated with three freehands stripes and Samuel Cooper advertising. Exceptional small size. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently found in the Southern U.S. Excellent condition with some tiny nicks to shoulder molding, not visible on front, and a tiny stone ping to base. H 6 7/8".
