Fine and Scarce Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Pear Decoration, Stenciled "Hamilton & Jones," Greensboro, PA, circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and rounded wax sealer rim, the front decorated with a crisply-stenciled double-pear motif, below the stenciled signature "Hamilton & Jones". Brushed cobalt band below spout. An excellent example of a desirable Western Pennsylvania form, featuring a particularly well-executed fruit stencil. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example. A 2" hairline from rim on front. Some small chips to interior of rim and a 3/4" shallow flake to inner wax sealer rim. H 8".
