Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with the Cobalt Floral Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1865, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed vine design bearing two tulip blossoms and a tulip bud, the decoration applied over slip-washed clay. Additional cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed with large three-gallon capacity mark at shoulder. Very nice condition with a shallow 1 1/8" flake to interior of rim and some faint in-the-firing surface crazing, not visible on interior.
