Monumental Ten-Gallon Southern Stoneware Jar with Alkaline Glaze, possibly W.F. Hahn, Trenton, SC, circa 1880, highly-ovoid jar with flared rim and arching tab handles, covered in a wonderful, flowing alkaline glaze with mottled olive-green coloration. Outstanding size with an incredible 53" circumference. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from a Southeastern Virginia collection amassed decades ago. Loss to approximately 45% of rim. Some typical surface wear. An additional restored chip to exterior of rim. H 19" ; Diameter (across top) 9 3/8" ; Circumference 53".
