Rare Pint-Sized Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, James River, VA origin, second quarter 19th century, petite, ovoid jug with squared spout, decorated with a brushed stylized flower blossom surrounded by a wreath. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Exceptional size. Provenance: A recently-discovered example, purchased years ago in the Richmond, VA area. Professionally-restored handle. Two minor spout nicks. Sealed Y-shaped crack on underside, continuing several inches up front of jug, where it forms a second Y. Tight lines to shoulder area. A small base chip and minor in-the-firing contact mark to base. H 8".
