Rare Quart-Sized Stoneware Presentation Pitcher with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Incised "Ana Maria Hartley," Henry Harrison or Richard Clinton Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, ovoid pitcher with footed base, tooled rim, and applied strap handle, decorated with four cobalt flowers extending around the body. Midsection with incised and cobalt-highlighted name, "Ana Maria Hartley," accented with swag decoration above. Additional cobalt swag decoration to rim and spout. Handle decorated with two dashes and highlights to the terminals. While a number of Remmey presentation pitchers are known, examples in this small size are particularly unusual. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor many years ago. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with two discolored in-the-firing marks on left side, and some heavier salting to right side. H 5 3/8".
