Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "F.J. CAIRE / Huntington / L.I.," circa 1854-1863, squat-shaped, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with an unusual brushed design of a tulip flanked by two fylfots. Provenance: Donald Matties Collection. Essentially as-made condition with a large salt drip under one handle, two in-the-firing burns to rim and a tight hairline extending across underside and 3 1/2" up base on side of jar.
