Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Stamped "LEWIS & GARDINER / HUNTINGTON, L.I.," New York State origin, circa 1827-1829, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-squared spout, decorated with brushed cobalt highlights to the maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Provenance: Donald Matties Collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some fry to cobalt, a tiny nick to shoulder molding, a small in-the-firing chip to handle.
