Extremely Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Presentation Crock, Impressed "HANNAH GARDINER" and "LEWIS & GARDINER / HUNTINGTON, L.I.," New York State origin, circa 1827-1829, approximately three-quart or one-gallon cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, featuring the large name, "HANNAH GARDINER", stamped in an appealing scroll-tipped font. Reverse impressed with Lewis & Gardiner maker's mark. The name "HANNAH GARDINER" likely refers to a relative of Long Island, NY pottery owner, Matthew H. Gardiner. Provenance: Donald Matties Collection. 4 1/4" hairline from rim to right of Lewis & Gardiner mark. A glazed-over chip to one handle. A small chip and a few tiny nicks to base. Some exfoliation to rim and a minor chip on interior of rim. A 1 3/4" long lightly-exfoliated area to base on front. Three small iron pings to surface. H 7" ; Diameter 7".
