Rare One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Stenciled Cobalt Rose Decoration, Stamped Twice "BROWN BROTHER , / HUNTINGTON, / L.I.," circa 1870-1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large stenciled design of a rose with heavily-leaved stem. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark on front. Reverse with additional impressed maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: Donald Matties Collection. A 3 1/2" professionally-restored hairline from rim on left side of front. A faint 4" surface line on side of jar at midsection, touching one handle terminal.
