Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "I.M. MEAD & Co / PORTAGE Co / OHIO," circa 1840, ovoid jar with flared collar and applied lug handles, decorated with brushed cobalt highlights to the maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Staining throughout. Rim chips. A 1" in-the-firing chip to base. A large, approximately 3 1/2" flake / contact mark at base / which occurred in the firing.
