Rare Anna Pottery Salt-Glazed Stoneware Frog Inkwell, Stamped "KIRKPATRICK. / ANNA, ILL.," Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, Illinois, circa 1880, molded figure of a frog with incised feet and mouth, seated atop a wheel-thrown mound base with raised opening. Impressed behind frog with the scarce maker's mark, "KIRKPATRICK / ANNA, ILL.". Traces of paint are visible on the belly of the frog. This particular inkwell form is rarer than the well-known, frog-on-clamshell variety. This example is also the first we have offered featuring the difficult-to-find impressed "KIRKPATRICK." makers' mark. Excellent condition with a tiny nick to mouth. H 3" ; Diameter (of base) 3 7/8".
