One-Gallon Stoneware Lidded Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, probably Riedinger & Caire, Poughkeepsie, NY, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with rounded shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with fan-shaped tail, perched on a stylized branch. Includes salt-glazed stoneware lid. A 4" hairline on underside, continuing 4" up reverse of jar. Two minor, in-the-firing chips to underside.
