Six-Quart Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, New York State origin, probably Poughkeepsie or Ellenville, NY, circa 1860-1885, cylindrical crock with tooled body, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a crested bird with paddle-shaped tail, perched on a stylized leaf. Partially-flaked U-shaped crack at base on reverse. An approximately 2" hairline from rim on left side of crock's front. A small handle chip. A small chip to interior of rim.
