Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Foliate Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and open loop handles, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted foliate designs at the shoulder. Large circular cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent color. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a Southeastern VA collection amassed decades ago. Crazing throughout much of surface. A large group of tight lines to right of decoration on one side, some of which are visible on interior. Rim chips. A few small rim chips.
