Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Wreath Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER," New York State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a finely-slip-trailed design of a wreath with bow surrounding the number "3". Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Very nice condition with some faint surface lines, possibly in-the-firing, and not visible on front. A base chip, two tiny base nicks, and minor in-the=firing chip to interior of rim. A lightly-stained area to left of decoration. A 2" long stained spot on reverse at base.
