Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Wreath Decoration, Stamped "BURGER & CO. / ROCHESTER, N.Y.," circa 1875, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed wreath with bow at base surrounding the number "4". Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a Southeastern VA collection amassed decades ago. Very nice condition with some light fry to cobalt, some mottling to surface, a small handle chip, and typical minor wear wear to inner rim where a lid would rest.
