Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Finely-Incised Floral Decoration, Stamped "G. LENT / TROY," New York State origin, circa 1820, ovoid jug with small, rounded spout, decorated with a large incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a four-petaled flower with heavy detail to petals and leaves. Unusual coggled asterisk decoration to shoulder on reverse. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark and handle terminals. A classic George Lent floral and desirable one-gallon size. Provenance: Descended in a New York State family. Excellent condition with a shallow spout chip, some drips of amber-colored staining, and some minor, typical in-the-firing flaws.
